So, as I suspected the non-caucasian expats in Albania are having a hard time calling Albanians ‘hospitable’ on account that they are only hospitable if one is of the right skin complexion. As a matter of fact they are calling Albanians racists for staring at a black man and calling him a negro “zezak”, or an asian a ‘monkey’ or mimicking their language derisively (as in ‘chan ching chong’)
Here’s a spirited apology for Albanian racism which I am reproducing here unedited. When I first read it i thought the commentator went a tad too far, but when I read this piece of news from Canada last week, I figured one should take it easy when they speak of Albanian racism (unless he/she is on the receiving end)
One should also have a look at verses at the top right hand corner of this webpage and see if you, in full conscience, can condemn those verses.
Racism (i.e. smartness) is not only balck vs white. Even Indians, i’ve heard, like to marry within their tribes and want to preserve themselves. I think people who are racist, ie self aware of themselves and their environment, have dignity. Yes, I love myself, I love my people, I love my country! Remember the opening line in the first book written in Albanian goes like this “WE, THE LOVERS OF OUR WORLD”.
I told you, read the Canon of Leke Dukagjini and the duties of the host and the guest and behave like a proper guest has to! Otherwise it’s rude and we have all the right to kick your impolite arse out!
Honestly, there is no justification for rants like this…Mixed half-truth, phobias and weird personal quirks do not represent a whole nation’s attitude.
First, the only people Albanians can discriminate upon in this case would be the gypsies. There is just no way to compare a Gypsy family living in Albania for well-documented generations (possibly much longer that our foaming compatriot here)to a black man brought to Albania by his assignment, government, religion etc. They have earned the right to be Albanians, no matter what anybody else calls them.
Second, Albanians have procreated, procreate and will procreate with their non-white partners, and then allow their parents to push the fruit of their union in Tirana’s streets, again without the permission of the foamy up here. And they have the right to say they are Albanians if they want to.
Third, most colored people who speak Albanians do not do so because they went to wash the dishes there. It is most likely they did that through their government channels (most likely my darling US of A), or for religious reasons (ever metd arab brothers in person), and to this day, I have never seen a brave enough Albanian to say how racist they are in front of these people.
This desire to keep a “clean race” it is just delusional rant. Unfortunately Albanians could never afford to be racists, and they learn the error of their ways very quickly. We do not come from racism, we do not understand racism, we do not know how to apply racism. But we do know it has been applied against us. i.e. Blockheads (in the Bronx)

Racism is a complex issue, in fact it is more a desire of the people for keeping themselves proud of what they are. I do not want to be very philosophic: racism is not good at all. Not even in religious prospect nor in human attitude. I am a white man. I do not have any hate against black people. We have only a little difference: color of our skin. But inside we are similar people; may vary a little because of our cultures, ways of living etc., bu at the end we have same desires, wishes to have our life proper.
My message is: do not feed the hate; do not support the ideas that split the people among themselves; live free without any racist or cultural hate. I am proud to be a white man and Albanian; you my friends from Africa must be proud of who you are. You have your history; culture and your own identity. God never creates bad things: peoples are they who create bad things. African people are bautiful people.

Nonetheless, the pig ignorance never ceases to astound me. Albanians have CLEARLY not evolved-they are set back about 40/50 years pre Civil Rights era. Disgusting. I, like Roxy, am a black woman who was in a relationship with an Albanian. I was really young and in my late teens at the time, and was COMPLETELY ignorant about Albanians and who they are. I have a child with this man, and he was a GREAT father. Even though we both moved on to be with other people, he continued to be in this child’s life as a father should. He moved on with another black woman [apparently, he liked black women] but his family urged him to leave her and get married to one of his own. Not only did he leave his black girlfriend to marry the Albanian girl [who is 20 years younger, by the way] but he also abandoned our child. It took a long time for my child to adjust, and the whole situation is just shameful. Now, my child is stuck with an Albanian surname, and I’m thinking of changing it, because I truly don’t want anything to do with these people. His family smiled in my child’s face, bought gifts, acted like they CARED, and at the drop of a dime, because they wanted to save face with their Albanian community, they sweep my child under the rug as if this child never existed. They were pressuring him to marry because he was the oldest son and his other brothers were already married. Very asinine, and extremely stupid. The fact that he could abandon his child shows what an utter coward he is.

Nowhere, did you see me say what people should or should not do. I have no problem with choices, I merely observe consequences.
Well, of course you’re entitled to your opinion, or, rather, your “observations”, but I do think you’re being a bit presumptious by assuming that there will always be “consequences” to having an interracial relationship. It depends on the parties involved. Some people don’t allow what others think to deter their relationships. Others, like most Albanians, who have a rather primary, clannish social structure, will most likely always adhere to such beliefs as yours.

Honestly, most people don’t find that sort of ethnocentricity to be a good thing. It’s great to have pride in your culture, everyone should, but the sense of superiority when it comes to “outsiders” is not socially acceptable on a whole. I’m Albanian and my husband is black and my children have the most gorgeous caffelatte skin ever and because of albanian racists motherfuckers i cant take them there because of the glances they would get. My children are half albanian and can speak albanian perfectly and I’ll always teach them to be proud of being half albanian and proud of their skin coulour. Colour is just colour……we are all people…have 2 eyes, a soul and feelings but this is something that most village albanian ignorants who smell of onions won’t understand.
