Even Stuart Reid, blogger at the Catholic Herald has declared Hitch and Fry the overwhelming winners!

Fry and Hitchens were well-armed and well-prepared, and they deployed their WMD to great effect. Rockets rained down on the usual Catholic suspects: Hitler, the Holocaust, anti-Semitism, the Crusades, Pius XII, Mussolini, the sack of Constantinople, the spread of HIV/Aids, Franco, Salazar, Bishop Richard Williamson – or “Roger” Williamson, as Hitchens called him, in what for me was the only light relief of the evening – and, to quote Hitchens again, the “institutionalisation of the rape and torture and maltreatment of children”…

The audience was made up for the most part of student types and of relaxed, charming, nicely dressed professional and media folk. They were the sort of people you’d like to invite to lunch if you had a nice enough house and weren’t such a saddo.

These were nice people, in other words, anti-Catholic to be sure, but in a rather self-deprecating English way. You felt that they wanted to have their most cherished disbeliefs confirmed, without being too noisy about it, and they reminded one of what has become increasingly obvious in recent years: that many of the well-educated, high-income professionals who run the country think Christianity is absurd, and that unyielding Catholicism is doubly absurd, even if it gave us Tuscany.

But the times are changing, and the English may become less easy-going. It is possible that within 50 years, for example, it may be against the law for the Catholic Church to proclaim its teaching on sexual morality or to continue to bar women from the priesthood.

What a racist !!!!!!!!!
I’m Albanian and my husband is black and my children have the most gorgeous caffelatte skin ever and because of albanian racists motherfuckers i cant take them there because of the glances they would get. My children are half albanian and can speak albanian perfectly and I’ll always teach them to be proud of being half albanian and proud of their skin coulour. Colour is just colour……we are all people…have 2 eyes, a soul and feelings but this is something that most village albanian ignorants who smell of onions won’t understand. They think they’re better than other people just because they are white. Listen to me qafirarnaut….get lost!!!

I agree, “non-whites” should leave Albania, as if they cared to go there in the first place – let’s pretend. Now, when are you immigrant Albos going to get the hell out of Italy and Greece? Thanks.

Glad to see that a Britt who can’t spell has graced my blog. Perhaps we can share knowledge how to trade in opium with the Chinese when we don’t have the cash to pay for their goods. If memory serves, your wretched island started a war when said opium was deemed to be unacceptable currency. And the cherry on top: her Majesty’s Army was brown. No wonder you’re lenient with them and think they bring in commerce.

This albanian farmer is entitled to his opinion but just as he does not want whoeever in his country speaking his lanaguage, i don’t want all you albanian farmers over in the UK bringing your crime and prostitution over to the UK, if you can’t stand your own poverty, then stay in your own walls and why you posting in english for if you’re so proud of your language – i thought the blacks and browns were bad enough but at least they bring some commerce with them, all the eastern europeans bring is their poverty, rude women and criminally riden traits.

Honestly, most people don’t find that sort of ethnocentricity to be a good thing. It’s great to have pride in your culture, everyone should, but the sense of superiority when it comes to “outsiders” is not socially acceptable on a whole. I never understood people who immigrate to other countries only to have disdain for everyone else around them.

Well, of course you’re entitled to your opinion, or, rather, your “observations”, but I do think you’re being a bit presumptious by assuming that there will always be “consequences” to having an interracial relationship. It depends on the parties involved. Some people don’t allow what others think to deter their relationships. Others, like most Albanians, who have a rather primary, clannish social structure, will most likely always adhere to such beliefs as yours.
